Barmano.com Adopts OpenID to Make Life Easier for Bar Goers Everywhere

Barmano.com lowers the barrier to becoming a member and gaining a more personalized experience to it's 50,000+ bar listings and drink lover community.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) February 11, 2009 -- Today Barmano (http://www.barmano.com/), dedicated to preserving and fostering bar and drinking culture, announced the addition of the OpenID functionality to it's English, Spanish, French and German speaking sites, making it even easier for OpenID users around the world to gain access to all of it's bar and drink oriented services. OpenID is an open, decentralized, framework for digital identity that eliminates the need for multiple usernames across different websites.

"On the web today people have thousands of websites to choose from, many providing unique and helpful services, but trying to manage hundreds of log-ins and passwords is not feasible. Technology needs to be an enabler, not an inhibitor." Noted Barmano founder David Slade, "We at Barmano understand and experience this problem ourselves, so we took steps to minimize this problem for everyone." Users can now log in with an OpenID on one of Barmano's four sites serving the global, bar going community.

The Barmano team is looking forward to opening their doors to users of a growing wave of service providers offering an OpenID URI to their users. The number of OpenID URI providers is growing every day. There are an estimated 160 million+ OpenID enabled URIs and nearly 10,000 sites supporting OpenID logins. In addition to the community growth, OpenID Foundation's Corporate board has recently grown with the addition of FaceBook, who joins the current board of seven community elected board members and six sustaining corporate members: Google, IBM, Microsoft, PayPal, VeriSign and Yahoo!.

OpenID Technology

With the increased use of the Internet to conduct business and the rise of new types of on-line interactions, such as social networking and user-generated content, innovative kinds of digital identifier technologies are necessary to sustain the "open Web." OpenID enables individuals to convert one of their already existing digital identifiers - such as their personal blog's URL - into an OpenID account, which then can be used as a log-in at any Web sites supporting OpenID.

Wide adoption of OpenID reduces the frustration of repeatedly having to register username/password accounts and then later recalling log-in information for an ever increasing array of Web sites. For on-line businesses, these efforts can lower password and account management costs, help reduce the overall risks of security breaches by limiting the amount of customer personal information businesses need to store and protect, and increase both new and return user traffic by lowering the barriers to Web site entry and reentry.
